Henry Pat Edwards,

1927-1928

On March 17, 2009 the Brethren of Highland Park Lodge honored: Past Master Henry Pat Edwards

The seventh Worshipful Master of Highland Park Lodge # 1150.  Bro. Henry received his early education from the Dallas Public Schools. He got his Bachelor of Arts degree and bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Wisconsin. During World War II, he served as a First Lieutenant of a machine gun company in the Ninetieth Division.

Bro. Edwards was married to Ruth Carter Edwards, Mrs. Edwards was active in many social organizations; Junior League, HP Society of Arts and both were members of the old dinner/dance club, Thalia….(Which I'm proud to say that my wife of 40 years and myself have been members of that very club for the past 25 years.) Henry and Ruth had two daughters and four grandchildren. They lived at 3812 Maplewood, in HP their whole married life.  His Masonic ties besides being a Master Mason , were he was also a 32degree Scottish Rite. And he participated in many of the 29 degrees of the Scottish Rite Reunions. I could not verify that he was ever a Shriner.

In 1923 the corner stone of the New Highland Park Civic Building was laid. Bro. Henry Pat Edwards was the City Attorney of HP and set up the corner stone event. The stone was laid by the Grand Master of Texas, Mike H. Thomas along with members of Highland Park #1150. Bro Henry was Junior Deacon at the time.

In 1928, he was made Chairman of the Program Committee for the Democrat Rally in HP.

In 1931, Bro. Henry was made President of the 60th Reunion of the Scottish Rite degrees.  1933, Bro. Henry Pat Edwards was appointed and announced by the first female Governor Miriam A. Ferguson, (better known as Ma Ferguson) to be the next State Tax Commissioner of Texas.  In 1940 Bro. Henry became the Secretary of the Dallas County Democratic Convention.  About 1943 Bro. Henry became the Assistant District Attorney for the City of Dallas.

About 1943 Bro. Henry became the Assistant District Attorney for the City of Dallas.

Regressing in time, I would like to read about the six new lodges that were chartered in 1921. Texas Grand Master, D. Frank Johnson presided over the event. Sam P. Cochran, as Past Grand Master was Masters of Ceremonies. PGM, Andrew L. Randle installed the Officers of all the new lodges. John W. Howart and Walter C. Temple were Junior and Senior Wardens,

The Ceremonies took place at the Scottish Rite Cathedral downtown Dallas. The Lodges were: Highland Park #1150 (Bro. Henry Edwards was tiler) and we know who our officers were. Hutchins Lodge, Landmark Lodge, R.C. Buckner Lodge, Gibraltar Lodge, and Metropolitan Lodge.

Brother, Henry Pat Edwards, we thank you for your important roll of carrying our great lodge forward. We are dedicated to seeing Highland Park Lodge #1150 continue into the decades of the future.

We can now greet your presences on our walls with a better appreciation of your involvement and importance to this lodge.

Brother Edwards, may you rest in eternal peace.

Thank you Brothers,

J. Darrell Kirkley
Junior Warden
