Harrison B. Cave, Sr., On December 16, 2008 the Brethren of Highland Park Lodge honored:
Past Master Harrison B. Cave, Jr.
Brother Harrison, was
born in 1879 in Missouri, and came to Dallas around 1890. As a young man,
records tell us that he was an avid cyclist.
In 1898, at 19, Harrison had a manager that put out a news release
challenging any amateur cyclist in the state for a series of races against
Harrison.
1903,
Cave graduated from Northwestern University with a Doctorate of Dentistry
degree. Soon afterward he opened his Dentist practice in Dallas. Later he became
the Secretary for the State Board of Dentistry Examiners.
In March of 1906, Dr. Cave was wed to Miss Mabel
Honaker of Dallas. They had one daughter, Mary, and one son, Harrison B. Cave,
Jr. Their home was at 4820 Abbott St. in Highland Park.
Dr. Cave was very active in Masonry throughout
his life. Besides being the
Worshipful Master of Highland Park Lodge, He was also at one point: Potentate of
Hella Temple, Director of the Court
25, Royal Order of Jesters, Past
Sovereign of St. Marks Concave, Red Cross of Constantine. 1909 He was an active Dallas Elk and the manager of the Dallas Elks baseball team. They loved to beat Ft. Worth. 1915, Dr. Cave was in
charge of the de luxe trip to the Imperial Shrine Council at Seattle Washington.
They arranged for a stopover at the San Francisco Fair.
In 1922, Dr. Cave, potentate of Hella Temple, took Dallas delegates to
the annual convention of Shrine directors
of North America in Kansas City. Also
later that year, Dr. Cave and a Hella Delegation
took a 5,971 mile round train trip
to San Francisco’s Convention. The
train cars were specially decorated and equipped with a Wireless Plant to keep
in touch with Dallas. 1923, Dr. Cave became the staff Dentist of the newly opened Shrine Children’s Hospital, services that were pro bono. Dr. and Mrs. Cave were
socialites, being active in many social events and organizations.
Yes, Dr. Harrison B. Cave, Sr. was very active in
Civic and Masonic duties right up the end. 1960, on his way back
from Denver to Dallas, where he had been to the Imperial Council meeting of the
Ancient and Accepted Order of Nobles of Mystic Shrine, where he had been honored
for his long and active participation in Masonic bodies;
Dr. Cave had a heart attack aboard the train and died.
L. A. Priester was one of his pallbearers. Brother Harrison, tonight
we honor you for your active roll in carrying our Lodge forward through its
early years, Sir, you are remembered fervently. Thank you, J. Darrell Kirkley |
